The writer’s wheel of emotions gives an excellent starting point for exploring how characters may experience, communicate and manipulate emotions. Multiple versions of this seem to exist, and I’ve included the most useful ones that I’ve found so far, to use or print out as useful.
Please feel free to update me should you know of others worth including!

Plutchik’s wheel of emotions
Another useful tool is Plutchik’s wheel of emotions, a more colourful rendition created by Robert Plutchik in 1980. This consists of eight basic emotions and eight advanced emotions each composed of two basic ones.
